The tournament started on a sunny June morning in Eastwood with a short briefing of the rules and how the tournament would work.
After a team talk the players was ready to start the journey to become champions. the groups stages was intense seeing the players giving everything they have and with temperatures rising the players dug deep to keep battling through to progress through to the quarter finals. There was VAR controversy as Luke Daminabos shot hit the crossbar and appeared to cross the line but the referee denied the goal. The end of the group stages came with players attitudes dropping due to the heat and some results not going our way meant a team talk from manager Joshua Towlson and a few parents to uplift the players.
quarter finals came one hour and a half after the last group match and the manager and assistant gave some more upliftitng words before the players faced Warriors FC in the first knock out game of the tournament. the game saw Beeston kick off to a fast start having several shots on goal and dominating possession but Beeston could not convert all these shots into goals. A few substitues gave the team a diffrent dynamic changing from speed upfront to strength and power. The second half started as the first ended with beeston giving everything they got and was rewarded with 3 goals and a very good free kick by Zac Ross saved in the top right corner of the goal.
Semi finals After such an uplifting performance all the players in the squad was up for going all the way and was focused to face Breaston. Both teams met in the league and the result back then swung in Breastons favour, this was redemption time for Beeston as the game was intense seeing both keepers making crucial saves ending the game as a draw. Due to the tourament rules the game went straight to penalties with each team only having three kick takers each. Beeston went first and scored through the legs of the keeper, lady luck on our side? i think so! Beeston's second taker sloted it into the bottom right corner but the third taker saw his shot just saved by the keeper which set up a nervy last penalty for Breaston needing to score to draw level, The keeper Louis Maddock looked focus and saved the shot sending the players, fans and manager into absoulute pandamonium.
Final This is what we all dreamed of doing at the start of the day playing in the final and having the chance to show that we are a group of champions. we was up against Eastwood cobras. Manager Joshua Towlson said after the game"although this was the biggest game of the tournament it was the only game i felt calm and my heart wasn't beating out of my chest" Beeston broke the deadlock in the first half when Ellis Ross super corner met Luke daminabo's head to hit the cross bar and rustle the back of the net, no VAR needed to settle that one!!! Joseph Allan had hit the sweetest of volley's heading towards the goal from just inside the half way line but the keeper managed to tip it over. Beeston's second goal came in the second half after soaking up some pressure from Eastwood and launched a counter attack with Harvey Kirk curling the ball around the Keeper to settle the score and crown Beeston as champions.
I am extremely proud of all the players that had came to the tournament, they showed grit, determination, team spirit, leadership and how football should be played. I think the players will remember this day and will bring the team closer together and give them an extra intensive to preform well next season. Well done Beeston!!!!!
