The boys were great... the dads were pitiful.- Coach Glen Laxton
Youth triumphed over experience as Beeston Orange u10s taught their dads a lesson at Trent Vale.
The rampant nine-year-olds raced into a four-goal lead against the senior side, which struggled to cope with the youngsters’ pace and enthusiasm.
Tough tackling and determined defending kept the dads at bay while the lads ran riot at the other end during a hastily arranged training game after the boys’ scheduled opponents pulled out of Sunday’s fixture.
The fathers’ defence was conspicuous only by its absence, while in contrast Orange seemed to find plenty of cover with each lad winning his battle against his dad.
Coach Glen Laxton, who skippered the dads, said he was pleased with the boys’ performance but revealed he was disappointed with the all the senior players.
“Can we not knock it?” he asked the old[er] players after the game.
The gasping seemed to indicate the answer was no.
“It was pitiful,” fumed Laxton. “Can’t pass it, can’t control it, some of them can’t even run. Unbelievable.
“They need to ‘ave a word with themselves – there’s another seven years of this ahead of them and at this rate they aren’t going to make it.”
The dads did mount a fight back, retrieving the score to 4-3, but eventually as their legs buckled beneath them they subsided to a 6-4 defeat
Well done boys.
